Operations Manager (Cape Town)

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To lead and manage the Branch’s day-to-day operational activities by providing effective supervision of Drivers, Assistant Drivers, Customer Liaisons and Zonal Controllers. The incumbent serves as the primary operational contact for customer enquiries, concerns and service-related issues, while driving operational excellence, customer satisfaction, employee performance and adherence to Company policies, procedures and service standards.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • To manage and co-ordinate logistics activities for the successful execution of the business plan from of order placement to client delivery and management of inventory levels, while optimising logistics flows.
  • Supervise and evaluate all daily operations of the branch.
  • Make sure that all drivers are on-route and monitor driving behaviour.
  • Track all vehicles daily.
  • Monitor fuel costs of all vehicles.
  • Transfer all fines of BRIMA vehicles back to drivers’ names.
  • Perform administrative duties such as setting schedules for drivers.
  • Ensure that all deliveries arrive on schedule.
  • Ensure that all collections are booked and collected on time.
  • Keep costs of operating fleet of delivery vehicles as low as possible.
  • Interact with the Operations Director from time to time regarding collections and deliveries made.
  • Make sure that all staff are well managed and monitor.
  • Do performance measurements for staff.
  • Do weekly/monthly reports for the Operations Director.
  • Responsible for training staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Grade 12 is essential.
  • National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, Operations Management or Business Management is essential.
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in logistics, courier or freight operations in an Operations Manager role or equivalent supervisory role.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Valid driver’s license is essential.
  • Clear credit and criminal record.

Exports and Imports Controller

Exports and Imports Controller

REPORTING TO

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Responsible for all imports and exports of shipments. To arrange the best means of transport, considering the type of goods and the customers delivery
requirements. Liaise and coordinate with shipping lines, airlines, road freight and rail freight operators to secure efficient, cost-effective and reliable transport
solutions for the movement of goods.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Obtaining, checking and preparing documentation to meet customs, ensuring daily distribution requirements are being met, insurance requirements, packing specifications, and compliance with overseas countries regulations and fiscal regimes.
  • Offering consolidation services by air, sea and road, ensuring cost-effective and secure solutions to small shippers who have insufficient cargo to require their own dedicated units.
  • Liaising with third parties to move goods (by road, rail, air or sea) in accordance with customer requirements and Incoterms.
  • Process an import/export order and an import/export transaction.
  • Do pro-forma invoices for all shipments.
  • Compile the documentation for an import/export transaction and arrange forward exchange cover for them.
  • Investigating and planning the most appropriate route for a shipment, taking account of the perishable or hazardous nature of the goods, cost, transit time and security.
  • Negotiating contracts, transportation, and handling costs.
  • Acting as broker in customs negotiations worldwide to guide the freight efficiently through complex procedures.
  • Do all international quotes for customers. Arranging payment of freight and other charges or collection of payment on behalf of the client.
  • Report on all customs matters.
  • Maintaining communication and control through all phases of the journey, including the production of management reports and statistical and unit cost analysis to customers.
  • Reports on all imports and export tonnage and the GP made on monthly basis.
  • Working closely with customers, colleagues and third parties to ensure smooth operations to deadlines.
  • Compile, analyse and submit accurate monthly operational reports to Management for Executive Committee (EXCO) reporting.

  • Import and export documentation (Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, Certificates of Origin and Customs Declarations).
  • International shipping regulations.
  • Cargo insurance.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Relevant Degree/National Diploma in Imports and Exports, Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Transport Management or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in import and export operations within the logistics, courier, freight forwarding or supply chain industry.
  • Experience coordinating sea, air and road freight shipments.
  • Sound knowledge of customs clearing procedures and import/export documentation.
  • Freight software, or any other Freight software package experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Have proficiency in software packages that are used by the industry.
  • Valid driver’s license is essential.
  • Clear credit and criminal record.
